on that fragmented day
their eyes
hateful orbs of accusation

i stood
innocent of guilt
yet guilty of difference
that they saw only as evil

as if choreographed
they each stooped together
to gather jagged stones
and i stood in the center
betrayed, i stood alone

their mouths formed words of anger
their mouths dribbled venom of hate
my mouth cloned a perfect spiteful smile
to rob them of as much pleasure as i could

they're children lined up
to spit on me
i smiled and hissed
and spoke in tongues
slobbering and twitching
laughing as they screamed and fled
playing the role i'd been assigned

the hooded one came forth
smearing the blood of slaughtered swine
upon my face and chest
i bit his hand, drawing blood of my own
and grinned with crimson teeth
as he struck me again and again

chained to heavy stones
as if i'd try to escape
as if i feared the pain
to be suffered for these apes

the hooded one gave the signal
and each arm drew back to throw
i stretched out my arms
to mock their king
and stared into the cold sunless sky

i was the eye of a violent storm
as the cloud-eyed fools rained down their stones
breaking skin and breaking bones
in silence i stood
and i stood alone

the last stone struck
my blood smeared face
and i screamed a scream
of feral rage
that echoed off the canyon walls
to produce a chorus of howling demons
prowling for entrance
to the cobwebbed halls of righteousness

unchained
robed in white
to be baptized in the river of salt
a burning kiss for every wound
and they laughed at pain
left to imagination
for all my screams
where bit back by smiles

finally to the House of Glass
where every follower throws stones
ignorance paints the walls so white
as blood stained hands mar every mask of purity

made to kneel
before the blessed Stone
for their god was a rock that they threw at the world

behind me they stood
each one naked and proud
they knew no shame
for they feared the very Tree
that set the mother and father of sin
free of designed stupidity

and as they chanted
their brainwashing hymns
i urinated on their holy Stone
and i stood to face the homicidal mass
ready to die
i stood alone [comments] => 5 [counter] => 269 [topic] => 13 [informant] => Cancer [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )

When I can find words to do this justice, i'll get back to you...Until then, all i'm saying is that this is dark poetry at it's absolute best.

"i was the eye of a violent storm
as the cloud-eyed fools rained down their
stones
breaking skin and breaking bones
in silence i stood
and i stood alone"

One of the best phrases i've ever read, period.

Truly,
-V.S.

Speaking as someone who doesn'r really care for "Dark Poetry" as such - I'm simply stunned.
I can't quote lines I find searing or disturbing or excellent - I'd end up merely writing out most of your poem.

Brilliant

Gotta echo venkat on this one-- only you, Cancer, could do it justice. Which you did. Nicely, I might add, with your trademark for haunting phrases and vivid images. Insert a few more emphatic UFYPMOTGF over here . . . this one'll be sticking in my head for a long time.
