Browsing the web with nothing to do
I posted a poem out of curiosity
And later I realized for attention

A few posts later my opinion changed
With some encouragement I tried harder
This poetry stuff I just might get
Some thought was all it required

Again I was wrong it seems
A poet I could never hope to be
Some of my posts are decent enough
But my heart is not in it

When my thoughts are happy
Words do not come to me
When my thoughts stray to the shadows
My pen does flow

Am I writing to fight my demons?
Am I writing to conquer my fears?
In the end, does anything change?
Or am I again just searching for attention?

I get a few comments it’s a natural high
I get one or none and my spirit dies
It’s my messed up life all over again
One minute happy, the next in despair

Some would say this is normal
All beginners feel this way
But this is how I feel in all I do
From the moment I awake every day

I can be happy, glad to be alive
Thankful for the life I have
Than in the wink of an eye
Death is all I wish for

Think of yourself as a saiing ship being knocked this way and that by the wind and sea. Your problem is lack of ballast, Lack of weight low down in the hull or on the keel to steady you.
You aquire this mentally, through experience,
study and knowledge.
It is apparent that you are aquiring this from the change in the poetry you write. So read more poetry, study the work of the poets who attract big readership. What is it about their work that makes them suiuccessful?

Do you want that sort of success? Do you have that sort of ego?

To go back to the sailing ship analalogy
do you know where you want to get to? Have you got a chart? Can you navigate? Or.....are you just going to go on drifting?

Any sort of success relies on being in the right place at the right time with the right idea. (and a bit of luck)

bob

Interesting write. It was pretty good though. I think alot of us feel this way no matter how accomplished. Always looking to be better hating those times we don't write. Trust me this was a good write.
