You’ll turn two this coming July,
But I wonder who learned more this past year.
I’ve watched you learn to walk, even talk,
But it was I who graduated.

You have taught me so much,
In such a short amount of time.
Made me evaluate every aspect of my life,
Putting my priorities in order.

Your innocent smile, and knowing eyes,
Captured my mind and opened my heart.
Showed me the importance of life,
And how to live it.

You made me realize what was important,
What effect my devoted time could have.
You rewarded me when I did well,
While showing me my shortcomings.

You showed me how to forgive,
Have a good cry and then more on.
You showed me the purest of hearts,
And the importance of a determined mind.

I thought it was my job,
To teach you how to be grown-up.
To be a strong, independent, responsible person,
But it was you who taught me.
