The battle has ended the day is won
The wounded are heavy and the burden great
The dead solder lay bound to their fate

Along with the dead I solemnly lay
For victories price my life did I pay
My dreams are shattered but victory won
At last this poor rebel can drop his gun

The banner lays with me stained crimson red
Draped over the bodies of the fallen dead
Peace over comes me for it’s all done
Thank god all mighty the battle is won

Sweet sounds of nothing I shall hear
As I lay blood without fear
The battle is won brave friends away
Forget me not on this cold bloody day

Excellent work.... I'm speechless... This sounds like the Iraq crisis episode. Great descriptions "banner lays with me stained crimson red" and the last line is superb. This is what makes great poetry.....
