I stood my ground
Against the odds
Foes all around

My weapon sang
As it leapt out
My gaze was strong
No fear or doubt

The first attacker
Was displaced
A frightful grin
Bewitched my face

A sword approached
Its glare I saw
Its one desire
My blood to draw

My shield I raised
The blow it held
My sword flashed out
The foe it felled

A wretched soul
Impaled my mount
He reared up
Then fell to the ground

I rolled on the dirt
Then got to my feet
My sword in hand
More foes to defeat

Though time was slow
My mind was fast
I knew how to block
Each blow they cast

A spear that was thrown
A spear that I caught
It left my hand
New foes it sought

The glint I saw
Of a drawn blade
I raised my shield
The sword it stayed

I fought for a maiden
They had taken my Dove
I slew for a cause
They had stolen my Love!

I blocked, I slashed
I dodged, I slew
In anger and wrath
My sword, it flew

My bloody sword
I then let fall
For I had won
I'd slain them all

My Love I found
Alive and well
I cried for joy
For her I held

Her arm about me
I held her tight
I whispered "Love,
'Twas worth the fight [comments] => 14 [counter] => 1879 [topic] => 68 [informant] => wachumiri [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 41 [ratings] => 9 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => fictional )

David, you KNOW I hate that line, "a frightful grin". I told you not to put it in!!! Now everyone will think you're crazy. Sigh, They'll be right.

Aw, victory is sweet is it not. This reminds me of the old classic poems about knights and maidens and battles against evil. Lovely.
