Array ( [sid] => 30654 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Down Syndromeeeeeee [time] => 2004-01-03 05:30:21 [hometext] => A poem about assuming too much. [bodytext] => What a pity.
It seems that another young fool
has caught what they call “Down Syndromeeeeeee”.
You know, I never could tolerate those who
would unknowingly hold themselves back,
or retard themselves, if you will.
I guess laziness gets the best of all of us in the end.
Make assumptions willy-nilly, and eventually,
you’ll only make an *** out of you and me and
seventeen thousand other people who have to look
at the vandalized walls of my home.
What I’m trying to say is, and pay attention to this part,
for it contains the moral of this whole thing,
Think before you act. Perhaps the bones on the floor
before you have a much more interesting story than
the mere pestilent rubbage you take them for,
and if proper time is taken, the most random, mundane thing
could have the most ironic and profound effect
on your life, and you’ll have just missed
your shot at your first million, or your undivorcing bride,
or enlightenment that speaks to your soul.
Then again, maybe it is just garbage too, or
its stories or consequences are inapplicable…
but hey, at least now, you know for sure. Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
