Fevered preparation! "Guardfish" in the bay!
the mackerel shoals would follow say
not more than half a day away.

Four in my boat, John, Eric and Paul
plenty aboard, no gear to install
feathers on our hooks, don't need bait or trawl
they'll snap at anything. No touble at all.

"You're not thinking of going fishing ?"
(wife's voice from the bedroom door)
"You promised you were going to do
the hall and kitchen floor!

You know that with my shoulder
I can't do it anymore.....................
There's all the washing to bring in
and Chantelle's calling at four!"

OK but the "guardfish" are in the bay
it 'll all have to wait for another day!
"But Robert you promi.....didn't hear her say
'cuz I'd shut the door, and was on my way.

Half way down to the harbour it started
" Well that was a nice way you just parted!
Right husband you turned out to be......."
(said the little gremlin on my knee)

"Don't you care about promisess?"
"Dont you care about the house in a mess?"
"AND someone calling to see her distress?"
(said the little gremlin with visciousness)

At the harbour steps, I gave Paul the key
"I'm afraid I got trouble at home you see,
off you go, catch some for me..........."
..............................................................
"We'll stay in the bay, don't you worry see"

Crept in the back door, everything fine,
got all the washing in off the line.....
Still damp, bunged it in the dryer
might just get me out' the mire.

Sneaky look round the bedroom door
Wife asleep, so tackle the floor
mop right through soooo quietly
see if she'd like a cup of tea.

Yes she would.. "You came back when?!"
"It must have been 'bout half past ten,
got the washing back indoors,
did the hall and kitchen floors".

Lest you think this "closed the book"
and it got me "off the hook"
It's not like in your poetry
husbands don't "get off scot free"

Would I like to polish the hall?
"Certainly no bother at all!"
Could I manage to empty the dryer?
You gotta say the lad's a tryer.

You would have thought...... A little kiss?
or little hug wouldn't go amiss
all to no avail........ I sigh
but for tea........she made me an apple pie.

Either you're celebrating 50 years of love for one another, or maybe 50 years of "missing out on fishing", Ha, hope you have a great one though, your writes always bring a smile, take care Val

some things don't change
in this wonderful bliss
i can't believe
all that i've missed

this precious prose
has me in stitches
i'm rolling with laughter
should be doing the dishes!!

Bob, you're such a gem ... how many men would change their minds about going fishing to do the washing and clean the floor! And make a cuppa tea! Lucky lady :)))) Happy 50th anniversay to you both ... Jan

Dear Bob,
Your poems come to life and I feel your joy and quilt!
But all that melts as I laugh with glee and wilt to your comedy.
This is one of your very best Bob....what a wonderful writer you be!
Warm Love to you and Jo and your 50th Anniversary!
