Array ( [sid] => 29928 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => THE GREATEST MAN THAT EVER LIVED [time] => 2003-12-22 06:24:39 [hometext] => If this man lived today, would you recognize him by his ways? Would you have to guess? Or would you know him immediately? [bodytext] => How do you measure a man's greatness?
By his military genius? His physcial strength?
or his mental brightness?
The Historian H.G. Wells said that a man's
greatness is measured by,
"What he leaves to grow!"
Even after he died, would his ideas be
followed by others and still glow?

Because of his dynamic teachings,
and the way he lived in harmony with them.
After more than two thousands years,
I was so influenced, by the teachings of his man
I'm now writing this poem!

As one writer so aptly put it:
"All the Armies that ever marched.
or all the Navies that ever were built.
All the Parliaments that ever sat.
All the Kings that ever reigned.....
Put these all together, have not affected
the life of man as powerfully as he gained!"

And yet, some say he never even existed at all!
Historian Will Durant argued.
"That a few simple men should in one
generation have invented so powerful
and appealing a personality, so lofty and so
inspiring a vision of human brotherhood,
would have been a miracle far more incredible
than any other recorded by manhood!

Even our calendars today are based on the year
that they think he was born.
Dates before that year are listed as B.C. or before.
Dates after that year are dated A.D. or Anno
Domini after he is a newborn.

He was the perfect reflection of His Father,
he came to show us what God was really like.
He was compassionate, kind, humble, and
approachable, loving, never hurting another
person in any way.....he was childlike!
The weak and the down-trodden
with him felt comfortable!
Men, woman, and children all loved him
except for those with wicked hearts, they
hated him because they were evil!

Historians such as Roman historian Cornelius
Tatius refer to this man by name, others such
as Flavius Josephus the Jewish Historian
will identify him as the same!

He taught loving your brother, was priority!
Giving your life for him if necessary, to that degree!
No love so deeply had been heard, let alone
taught, with much forethought, turn the other cheek,
even loving your enemies...being outfought!
His surpassing example of love has
transformed millions of hearts for the good!
Hindu, Mohandas Gandhi said,
"I love Christ, but I despise Christians
because they do not live as he taught, brotherhood!

A scholar from the University of Chicago claimed:
"More has been written about this man in the
last twenty years than in the previous
two thousand!"
What leader down through history do you know
would give his life for his followers, shunned.
I can't think of one single one!
And yet he never ask from his followers,
anything, that he himself would not have done!

I present to you now this man, The Greatest
Man Whomever Lived Upon This Earth!
The Reigning King, The Christ, The Messiah
recognized for his tremendous worth!
his name is Jesus Christ, or Christ Jesus....

It was He that taught us how to fill our hearts
with kindness, goodness, and love.
It was He that taught us how to be compassionate and loyal to our fellow brother.
Are we forgetting His teachings?
Are we forgetting Him now that He resides above?

First off, let me get past the inevitable praise of your knowledge, for it is truly vast and encompassing. Very well written, indeed.

Given my agnostic nature and devout atheism, this left me with very mixed feelings. But in the end, even while I may not be a believer in the traditional sense, I cannot deny the influence of the image of Christ, or the message of love and kindess it represents. Even while my overly jaded and skeptical mind prevents me from being a religious man, it would be a lie to deny that the embodiment of Christ is and always will be the enduring symbol of ultimate peace and tranquility. Even without the biblical connection, this man's mark would still be emblazoned upon the world. None before or since have measured up to his love, compassion, and iron will.

Sorry about the speech, but I felt it necessary. Must be a special poem to get this big of a reaction! :-) Superb job, Connie Sue.

Truly,
-V.S.
