Old Annie sits by her window smiling
Gently rocking in her chair compiling
Reaches the box of memories full of years
The slow-falling cascade of her tears.

Sees through her window her grandchild at play;
Her comfort zone in life, a love past away
Thinks of her husband and daughter so dear,
Memories of a lover in her heart she held near

Annie looks through her window pane into the past,
And her mind is comfortable, memories last
With her thoughts and memories of days gone by;
For there is not much future, the years just fly

Old Annie dreams as she rocks in her chair;
While her grey head holds memories of her hair so fair
And the days slip away into years of remembrance,
In her younger days she had a desire for concupiscence

She opens the box laying by her side
All her letters and secrets in there to hide
She slowly reads his letter speaks out loud
Her words echo above the gathering storm cloud

The poem said

My darling Annie I love you so
Please wait for our love to flow
The war should soon come to an end
Until then my darling my love I send

I hold a photo of you, keep it near my heart
And pray to god we never again part
The days are dark the nights so long
Oh Annie my darling I know this is wrong

Remember I will love you always and forever
We will live on in each others hearts forever
Until I can kiss you and hold you near
Remember always Annie do not shed a tear

Reading out the telegram hands trembling so
"Died in action" that was such a long time ago
She shivered remembering her tearful reaction
Her secret love was more than a physical attraction

Love

Saness and joy. Sadness for things that we all had to get through in those days 50-60 yers ago. Joy to read english so well written and so evocative.

Try one or two of mine I venture you might like
He's not the only one
The way we were

Have a browse I'll carry on down your list
