Array ( [sid] => 29271 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => I Love You, My Sister [time] => 2003-12-13 03:00:23 [hometext] => This is a longer poem...there were several different catagories this could have fit into...such as friendship poetry...so technically, this is grief and tragic poetry/friendship poetry! Please read and review! Sarah May [bodytext] => You have always been my best friend
The best one God could give.
I thought, “what if I lost you?”
And I knew that I would never live.

We swore to each other,
We would always be good friends.
No matter what happened,
Even through life’s turns and bends.

We laughed a lot,
At stupid things we did.
It was the best time of my life,
And I was still just a kid.

I loved you like a sister,
Even though you were a friend.
And when you said we had to talk,
I was afraid that it would end.

You asked if I remembered,
When you went to the doctor that day,
Then you said you were sorry,
Because you really wanted to stay.

We spent all of our time together,
Never leaving each others sight.
Afraid of what could happen,
Scared you might leave me in the night.

Then one day your mom called,
And said you wanted to talk.
I came as soon as I could,
It was a race against the clock.

You were lying in your bed,
And my eyes filled up with tears.
My life flashed before me,
Time spent with you all of those years.

You smiled weakly at me,
When I sat next to you.
You whispered, “I love you.”
And I choked out, “I love you too.”

You said, “Thank you, Sis,”
And I asked you what for.
You said, “Just for being you.
I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

“You will always be my best friend.
The best one God could give.
Please don’t cry for me,
Just go on for me and live.”

A tear ran down your cheek,
And I couldn’t help but cry.
If I could have my choice,
I’d be the one that had to die.

I held your hand all through the night.
Even when you fell asleep.
I watched your even breathing,
And I began to weep.

You woke up when the sun began to rise.
You looked at me and tried to sit,
But you were far too weak.
So you just smiled at me a little bit.

You knew that it was time to go.
But you held in there for me.
I could tell you were in pain,
So I decided to tell you to be free.

“I love you and I always will,
And I know that you love me too.
Think of the end of this life,
As the beginning of a new.”

You smiled up at me through tears,
On the bed where you lay.
So then I whispered in your ear,
“You can go now, it’s okay.”

“I love you,” you said,
As your eyes closed so slow.
“I love you too,” I whispered,
Even though my heart was screaming no.

You died that beautiful morning,
When I told you you could go.
I will miss you very much,
More so than you will ever know.

I still have not forgotten you,
After all these many years.
But today I’ll see you once again,
And there will be no tears.

I managed life without you,
Though it was very tough.
You missed so many things,
And left behind all your favorite stuff.

So remember this, my sister,
When we meet again today.
I love you now and always,
And now everything will be okay.
