I walk and sit right in front of this mirror
I look right into it and stare
My mind goes blank and I begin to think
What am I really?
What do I consist of, and am I real?
My pain hidden behind this makeup
The makeup that makes me beautiful
Without it Im nothing, another broken soul
I try to make others believe I am something Im not
I let them see who I try to be, but Im not
I just hide in the corner and watch
Hide behind this makeup that I bought
I spend money everyday
To make others see me in a different way
They cant see the person behind these lies
Or all ill be shedding is cries
I cant let that happen and it never will
There are a few that dont care
And those will be the ones that stick around
All the others are worthless clowns
But ill keep hiding and be pretend
Because thats whats makes me beautiful in the end

As a woman, it's hard to be appreciated for things deeper than skin. But, we have to keep trying in order to make the world safe for all people to be their unique selves. I appreciate that you are questioning the status quo. Good poem.

I liked how you wrote this.. YOu shoudln't hide behind makeup.. Always be yourself.. I can understand how you feel though.. some people are so superfical and it is sickening but don't let that get to ya.. there are others out there who aren't so superficial and stuck on apperances.. great write!

At least here you can be who you are...
And, I'm sorry, but I'm disagreeing with you. True beauty is found in the inside, in the heart. And you explode with beauty. You wrie with a grace that's astounding. Keep writing.
Take care.
David
