pale winter skin
reflects light
into darkness
what cold kiss
startles senses
not yet awake
to this brittle season
hark the herald
there is only silence
the cooing of wind
down the chimney
the rust of autumn
trapped under snow
crisp to the touch
it is here and now
the winter white
spectacle
arrives in swirling dance
wearing blue gray gown
to stay for months
until we cry no more
huddled into corners
nesting in our beds
to avoid icy cold hands
