But that I am not The ONE
You hold me and you kiss me
But we're only "having fun"

I told you I was ok with that
That friends is all we are
But I can't stop my heart
From wishing on that star

My mind knows our childhood romance
has surely faded with the past
But I can't help but fantasize
That this time it may last

You told me it was a lesson
About how true love should be
But the lesson has backfired
It wound up hurting me

How could you say you love me
Yet say I'm not enough
That it's an honor to be with me
But I''m not up to snuff

That the One you're waiting for
who lives up to your ideal
Is not me, but another
Were your feelings ever real?

I read your words from yesterday
When another had claimed my heart
And now that I have broken free
You choose to stay apart

I opened myself to you
In every way that I know how
But your reality conflicts with mine
Where does that leave me now?

I've tasted you, I've been with you
And yes, I still want more
But once the lesson is complete
Will you be walking out the door??

You say you want to show me
What it's supposed to be
But you say that I'm not enough
Your words are killing me

Friends and Lovers
Different circles in your view
You can have one without the other
But you'd prefer to have the two

I wish I could separate
that which is so clear cut to you
But my heart and mind both want you
My dear...I'm in love with you

Lesson is complete...
I now know how it feels
To give your heart to someone
And be unable to make it real

You are a very cruel instructor
You've ruined it for the rest
Because after having you
I cannot settle for any less [comments] => 2 [counter] => 190 [topic] => 2 [informant] => XoIrishXo [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LovePoetry )

This is a beautiful write, but sad at the same time..."looking for a friend and a lover when you find one he ain't the other...." just like the song..
