Water flowed as a raging river
Drops in your eyes had blurred your vision
Carnivorous winds bite and make you shiver

Once that had all subsided
And began the dissipation of the shroud
Ambient light began to overtake
As the howling moon broke through the clouds

As you picked up your somnolent head
Realizing you were the only one awake
Breathstealing beauty previously unforseen
As you rub your eyes to give a second take

Hours since the sun had fallen in the west
Revealing the simple beauty
Of a city at rest

Wide-eyed to the night sky painted mood
A metropolis fades
From bustling to solitude

Streetlights like patterns in the stars
Illumined roads as trails in the sky
Skyscrapers stand majestic as mountains
An untethered soul to release an eternal sigh

Walking on a living canvas in stasis
Nearly possessed by the influence it wields
Even the simplicity of a sidewalk or park
Can be as lush as the Elysian Fields

A cycling beauty with which you are obsessed
A still life portrait
Crafted in your unrest

A two-faced work of art spread before weary eyes
Only in conscious sleepwalk
Until the next sunrise

Playgrounds are completely devoid
But still you hear children laugh and play
The streets seem lonely without passing cars
As your mind wanders so very far away

There's serenity in the lifelessness
A certain kind of intangible peace
An industrialized beast of countless parts
Incredible to watch it's many actions cease

So the sun will rise, it's revival will completely kill
But just like the Earth will turn, once again the city will be still
