This is when the darkness moves in
First the sun comes out, the light shines thru
Then the shadows come, the night will soon begin

When the world is bright smiles abound
When the world is dark, fear takes hold
The light keeps the shadows at bay
At night a different world will unfold

The sun leaves nothing to fear
Creatures of the night retire
Shadows don’t belong out here
The tranquility felt we all desire

But like all else, this feeling can not last
Light will slowly fade away
Soon the other world will emerge
And we will be lead astray

What was once good is now evil
Friends will be quick to stab you in the back
The shadows obscure and change your views
You never stop to wonder what started this attack

Fear, loneliness, and suspicion are your new friends
Love and trust are a thing of the past
Fighting this is useless and a waste of energy
But to our hopes and dreams we hold steadfast

There are those few who truly give in
Those are the ones who soon disappear
There are also those who never lose their faith
For the rest of us they shed a tear

The remaining ones live in a state of confusion
They feel the sun and welcome its embrace
But when the night takes over
Their feelings get jumbled and misplaced

They show a bold front, with smiles and all
When inside the turmoil is just beginning
They don’t know whether to wish for death or life
They only know they have this never-ending yearning

Wow I can definately relate to this. I've met so many people in my life that wear a mask of 'happiness', if you will, and are really reeling in conflict on the inside. This reminds me of a 2 Skinnee J's song, "When the sun comes up we run with the animals, When the sun goes down we run from the cannibals."

Great write!
