Some closer to me than others
What I don’t show, they can’t see
Let that close, not even my lovers

Why do I hide from you?
Only showing what you want to see
Can you see that’s what I do?
You know very little of me

I don’t know if you want to try
To know me and me know you
I only know I want to cry
I can’t give to you what is due

You deserve to be given everything
A whole heart you should receive
Your heart and soul are breathtaking
These things I truly believe

My heart is shattered and torn
I think you deserve to know
My soul feels old and worn
Because I am my own worst foe

Of wall building, I’m capable
High around the inner me
To avoid the unspeakable
To ensure that you don’t see

The inner me is ever alone
But craves some company
How can you get past the stone
Of the prison that is me?

What's left to say? I feel you 100% on this one, as I too have descended that particular staircase.
