What happened to those happy moments, happy lives
What happened to all those good times
What made her into someone who cut with knives

The smiles, the cries of joy
It was all a ploy
A pretence from the gods
Lies from above
Pretending that life
Was nothing other than love

Where did that pretty face go
Why did I let it see the truth, reality
Why couldn’t I have kept it behind those curls
Why did I show it this world’s brutality?

Ahh, the bliss, the innocence
The hearts, joined as one
Now they see what she saw
Now all that love has gone

Why did I let her fall so hard
Why did I let her tear them apart
One too many in the family
Hidden secrets of pain in her heart

Why did I let her grow up
(Can you see the emptiness in their eyes)
Why didn’t I make her life stop
(Can you hear the despair in their cries)
Why didn’t I end it all long ago
(Watch their expressions go numb as the tear dries)

I reached out, but did nothing, and her eyes grew sad
I saw everything she did that she knew was bad
I watched as she withdrew from mum and dad
I knew she was losing everything she had

I knew her
I knew her so well
Then things changed and it all began to swell
And we all saw her face begin to grow old
We all saw her getting more weary and cold
We all saw the terror inside her unfold
The story was telling itself
The one that had been left untold

I see her now, I see her looking deep into my eyes
I see her understand what, where and why
I hold her within and begin to cry
This happiness, this state of being, this is for what and why
As we bid depression goodbye

Awesome write! VERY touching, it drew me in right from the start and didn't let go till it was over. It spoke to me. Great job.
