Array ( [sid] => 26757 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Charles VanLaan RIP [time] => 2003-11-09 05:41:26 [hometext] => This is about a man I knew that died in April 2003. He meant a great deal to me and he will be forever missed. [bodytext] => Charles VanLaan R.I.P.

For the last 23 years
you were many wonderful things
a caring husband, a loving father,
a man with many goals and dreams
but even before you met your wife
you were a man of so much more
you were a soldier, a fighter
who survived the Vietnam War
You were faced with another battle
that lasted almost a year
it was painful and rough and times got hard
oh how I wish that you were still here
But on April 24th of 2003
the Lord took you away
Sometimes I miss you so much I burst into tears
and wish it hadn't ended this way
You fought the cancer for over 9 months
I still can't believe that you died
My mind is so whacked, I can't even remember
the number of nights that I've cried
When you needed me the most
I know I wasn't there
and my reasoning for this
I would like to share
When the doctors told us how long you had
I think my heart skipped a beat
I wanted to dive right out of that window
and land head first on the street
I regret not facing you and hate myself
more and more each day
I should have sat down and talked to you
there were so many things I needed to say
I should have tried to comfort you
I should have said good-bye
But all I did was stand at the window
All I could do was cry
I want to say I'm sorry
for what I'd put you through
and everything I did that night
or really, everything I didn't do
I'll try to remember the good things
and block out all of the bad
I hope you know how much I miss you
and how much I love you, Dad.
