It does the soul some good,to learn about the truth
Education is for everyone, not just our growing youth
Even the old and wise can learn a thing or two
The knowledge is found everywhere, the rest is up to you
Grab a book or learn first hand, about anything at all
Walk a mile in someones shoes, understand why they now crawl
Don't be quick to say your piece, less the facts come with the words
For never will a blatant lie,be ever tolerated when heard
To talk of what we know is one thing
To babble what we think is quite another
And though all walks have the right to be voiced
Respect truth as you would your Mother
For like a Mother, truth will teach us
Facts can show us right from wrong
Never disrespect the truth, listen to its educative song
To me education comes from the people
Who have wisdom enough to see
That what was given freely to all brothers
Has the right to always remain free
Man has taken all thats beautiful, used progress as an excuse
For all the problems in our environment
A cover for Earth abuse
Everything is here for a reason
The Native Americans knew this well
Making good with what was handed
Before the white man's hammer fell
I am educated,I can say my piece in faith
That I know of the pain and all the suffering
Of a beautiful loving race
Some say they have been given everything
Money,freedom and land to plow
But if anyone has seen their land
You could never figure how
For the land they had was ripe, willing beneath their feet
Now all they have is barren ground
And the government thinks its sweet
Freedom has lost its meaning
To ones who so freely walked this earth
Now they live as prisoners
Judged and ordered before birth
They would not sarve or hurt through winter
If they could go back to older ways
Times when life was lived
Not like their existence here today
As for all the money, again the price is paid
Forced to lie in a bed, that the white man had made
Im not talking comfortable doonas and pillows
Im speaking of the life they now know
Given to them,premeditated methods
Such a cruel and vicious blow
This could go on forever
But I will hush while you try tell
That the peaceful Native Americans
Have done this to themselves
There were some things I already knew
And many I 'm now learning
But unless you are these beautiful people
You could never know their deepest yearning
Just to be who they really are
Not what society or the government choose
Do yourself a favour, get to know the truth
What more than time, do you have to lose [comments] => 9 [counter] => 181 [topic] => 21 [informant] => lovingwhispers [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

i know this was a stab at me but I still hold with what I said earlier that they are just to blame for their predicaments as we are. Look at the Jews 6 million dead during World War II and now they have their own prosperous country. Its the Natives choice to not move forward. Good poem though. I hope our differences does not affect our friendship.

Peace,
Joel (Bobo)

Jews case is different.. but these native americans were the victims of white men's colonialism..on their own land they were hunted, killed, and plundered...as per the historical record..now after reading this poem we can understand that their lot was not changed.

I have an open mind..as a reader of this poem.. I did not pass any bad remark against the poetess.... even I did not interfere with the earlier commentator..Only I said is jews case is different from the native americans case..and I did not find any fault with native americans..there fore your advice to me is uninvited..your impatience towards me is unreasonable.. I request you never to interfere with me...very sorry..Kalika_vidya

Sadly some people will never get it. I love your poem, it hits right to the core. Some can read till they're blue in the face, but until it sinks in comprehension wise, what's the use in reading?

Whether Indians, Jews, Blacks, Whites, we all deserve to live with respect and dignity. What ever happened to first come, first serve? Seems to me it should read first come.....last served, with whatever scraps are leftover. All in the name of greed, prejudice, and hatred? I could just imagine the conversations going on around some families dinner tables.

People that read your poem and really do some soul searching......it will make a difference for the better. Sometimes the truth hurts, but at least you hit a nerve. There's always hope. Thank you for the most honest write I've seen in quite sometime.

Glo!

I really enjoyed you're poem, though it's not what I expected from the title. I appreciate the sentiment, being part native american myself (though you can't tell from looking at me). I ache for all who suffer oppresion inflicted by others.

this is what i want, if my child is at your door hungry, feed him. if my mother is to weary and needs a moments rest, lay her down.
If my people cry, hear them. And know in your heart I will do this.
PEACE..........Crow

a wonder write.
