They are keeping the rhythm and marking time
Waiting for the conductor to raise his baton
When he brings it down the concert is on
Mr. South Wind is the leader today
He's got the touch; he can make them play
Baby sister's little socks make the notes so high
Listen, Mama's silk stockings like a violin sigh
And the sheets like a bass drum crack and pop
While the towels keep a beat that will not stop
Papa's overalls like a trumpet sound
When the wind blow 's through the legs so round
I could listen all day to the music they play
But Mr. South Wind will soon go away
For the band is seen and heard by only me
Music a child's fantasy can hear and see
For when I am grown and other things fill my mind
My concert band again will be, Mama's clean clothes on the back yard line.
