Array ( [sid] => 25582 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => My Poppy [time] => 2003-10-22 21:48:33 [hometext] => On this date, when I was just an infant, someone in my family died to whom I barely knew... and I hadn't gotten a chance to know. He's been gone for most of my short life, but when I think of my Poppy, it always brings me tears... [bodytext] => The man that I remember
from photographs,
where I'm sitting on his knee,
the diplomatic, even-tempered figured
I remember vaguely

I was only two years old
when god took him from this life
the cancer had overtaken him
making a widow of his wife

"He would have been so proud of you", everyone says
for he loved you very much,
He'd walk me in my stroller
to the tennis courts and such.

I've been told so much about him
from Ireland to fighting in WW two
but I didn't know him personally
for I was fairly new

How I wish I knew him better!
than just those few short years
and whatever people have told me about him,
has brought me into tears.

I think about my Poppy
and if he can see from up above
I wonder what he thinks of me
and if he sends his love.

Poppy, I wish you were here
to see me be something great
to see my big life events,
to see me graduate.

But I know you're watching
for heaven up in the sky...
down on your favorite granddaugter...
