The sorriest human that comes to mind
Is a young petite female who's trying to find,
A suitable member of the opposite sex
To take her to prom night, a week after next.
She had a nice guy but he had to leave town,
She now has a smile that is turned upside down,
She cannot ignore the fact that she must,
Get her a guy or I'm sure she will bust.
This is serious for I did hear her say,
Life's not worth living much after today,
If she doesn't show at prom night with a guy,
The girls all will tease her..up to the sky.
I have to wonder why protocol dictates,
To perform like the rest, with all of their dates,
But suppose that you are smart and suppose you are nice
Isn't that enough..doesn't that suffice?
Why do people make rules that make some of us fools?
Why follow the styles and follow the rules?,
If these tend to make us nothing but tools,
Stand up, be counted..we're sure more than mules.
Take my advice. Don't date by coersion,
This will result in a case of aspersion,
Don't show at the prom, it means not a mot
Show only if.. you get your own beau.

A prom without a date
Is the worst teen fate
Makes your heart just break
You wish a fellow you could just make
But a strong spirit is what is needed
So that the teasing is not heeded
Go to the prom head held high
Looking so good all the guy's will sigh
good write
Shari ( I use enough words this time?) |

Reading this poem was easy and I loved the light rhyming. Nicely done.

That's the exact reason I didn't go to the prom
Didn't have a boy there on my arm
But now I regret it and think it was silly
All my friends went and they went without me
Good write Norm I enjoyed this. |

I’ve never even had a date
I guess it’s just a part of my fate
I won’t be alone though, I’ll be with my friends
I’d say our friendship, is where laughter never ends.
I don’t really know, how to treat a girl
And on the dance floor, I can’t make her swirl
But if she wants to, she can come along
I can promise it’ll be a night, she’ll remember for long.

Loved ths poem, Norm
All the things you said were true too!
I had a steady all through my high school,
and the last year he went away to college.
So I would gather all the girls who normally would have never gone....we'd get all dressed up and away we would go to Prom.
That way, we got to court all the single boys, and there was a whole lot of them...
We wouldn't have stayed home for the world.
Prom only comes once a year you know...so go, single or not....and whirl and shirl, be all girl! It's great fun!

We didn't have Proms over here
just a regular Saturday hop I fear
down the Riverside Restaurant
That was the place for the best talent.
Sort of dinner dance atmophere
you had to book a table to get in there.
I had a permanent table booking
made a few dollars out of people looking
It tended to attract the same old crowd
but the beer was good and the music loud
Always managed to have a few twirls
Never picked the best looking girls.
