Placed for a journey far away
Did not realise where he was going
Still as the night he lay

In that far away place
A little girl dreaming
Awoke to the day, rubbed her eyes
Stood staring at the sky

At the post office counter
Green Teddy was weighed on the scales
Waiting patiently in his temporary home
Cuddling himself, wrapped and warm

Air Mail please, she smiled
Pushed her glasses into place
Handed me a ticket
To send him on his way

VALUE OF ITEM said the ticket so clear
I smiled when I thought of him lying inside
The value I placed, only the cost
True value the delight in that little girl's eyes

I watched the lady take him
Place him carefully with many other boxes
I wondered, maybe other Teddy Bears inside
Oblivious to the fuss

Little birthday girl, excited
Peered nervously inside
Saw big black eyes and the widest smile
Wondering at his new world

Green Teddy Bear opened his arms and cuddled his friend
The girl with the look of delight
Something familiar sparked in his mind
A memory brought back into life

In that shop she had seen in the corner
Up high on the shelf months before
Green Teddy Bear sitting, watching each day
Hoping so much to be loved

I hope little girl, he will bring you much joy
No more the lost little Bear
I know late at night as he sleeps in your arms
He will whisper he's found a new home.
