Soon I'll want the keys
and a little extra cash
for a new outfit
or the football party bash

Soon we'll disagree
and call each other names
And not speak to one another
and other stupid games

This will build a wall
separating me and you
I'll go and have some fun
like other kids will do

Because...
I'm not your little princess

better knock down that wall...

I'm not your little princess,
not anymore
I'm not that sweet little girl
I was when I was four

I'm not as perfect
as I used to be
I no longer play with dolls
or cry when I scrape my knee

I am a teen

It's tough for Dads to see that their little girls have grown up. In fact they are usually the last to realize it. As time passes both of you will see a bit more clearly just what the other is going through now. This is a right of passage for fathers and daughters my friend. He will learn to let go and you will one day see it wasnt so bad to be Daddy's little princess. :o)

I'm happy you all liked my poem, but it has nothing to do with me and my dad at all... actually it is to my entire family. They don't realize that I am not two years old anymore... I just had to clarify that, so you won't get the wrong impression by reading my poem

As a teen myself, I of course can relate to this. Parents need to learn when to let go and realize their little babies are all grown up. Great write, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm going through that with my mother right now. She just can't seem to get used to the fact that I'm really grown up and getting married. I also went through this with my father when I was 14... which wasn't that long ago. I think parents usually realize when it's time to let go... after they get over their "empty nest syndrome".
