Array ( [sid] => 25347 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Hope Has Danced Her Last Dance Here [time] => 2003-10-19 19:16:05 [hometext] => This poem was inspired by a vampire novel I'm currently writing. It deals with the despair of a young man, praying to God, while he is going through the Change. [bodytext] => Hope has danced her last dance here
All light and laughter is faded
Little more than a booming silence
Is left to breach the darkness surrounding me

All is withered and dying in this grey little place
I’ve wasted my last breath calling your name
How merciless is the cold bitter wind
When you aren’t near to shield me

I can still hear the voices of the world outside
Though the walls of my dank little prison
Muffle their ghostly thrum
How alone, how hopeless I’ve become
Abandoned and chained to drifting memories
Lost in the ruins of the illusionist’s golden paradise

Carry my bitter cries heavenward
Listen to the choir of my sorrow sing in a broken voice
Echoing the dissonance of the Lost

Lord, have mercy on this tainted soul
Pity the writhing demon hiding in this heart
The unholy darkness weaving through my veins
Condemn me not to wander aimless
And devour the spirits of your children without mercy
Smite me down and end this misery
Hope has danced her last dance here

a dark and deeply compelling write. you capture the very essence of the Change ;) The prayer-like form gives an interesting spin to this eloquently written poem. Hope to read more from you soon, this was excellent. Kate x
