Turning, we take our line to the sky
Faint lights our pathway lead
On the horizon another bird climbs.
Lilting soft tones of music inside scarcely dim the noise outside
Pause for a moment, expectantly
Soon my bird will rise.

Soon I will soar into empty air
Into position now, no turning back
Speed building, thundering down the long line of black
Suddenly lifted, the world drops beneath me
Criss cross of smoke trails in the blue beyond
A Patchwork quilt of yellows and greens below me.

Towns and villages turned so small I could scoop them in my hand
Rivers laid out like twisting lines of thread
As an arrow straight and true we pierce the lowest clouds
Reaching for the top of the sky, carried on strong grey wings.
Stretched out below a long blanket of white
A sea of pure untrodden snow, where no-one could ever walk upon
Except in a dream perhaps.

I could float down and gently lay my head
or jump up and down and make the swirls dance higher into the air
I could sit on the edge of the wing of my bird
Feel her every heartbeat, feel the chill of the wind on my face.
But inside I am still outside
Outside my everyday world
Willing this great eagle to take me somewhere new
Away from the safe and the known

Majestic in flight we rush over mountains and seas
She carries me off further into the blue
So take me to some distant land
Anywhere you please
You have seen so many places I have yet to share
Touch me down on a foreign shore
Speed me to the new.
Banking slightly to the left, falling, descent into the mist
Finally my great bird comes to rest
I turn and look back, there she regally stands
Glistening and white in the soft shimmer of the day
My journey ended for a while
But really just begun.

By the end of your piece I was seeing you not in an airplane but sitting on top of that majestic bird peering to the left and right as the mighty wings flapped.
Sounds like you have not experienced anything that is dull or mundane.
Everything you write about has description and emotion and wonder. How refreshing!
