And knows that her life will never be the same.
Their paths have crossed in an uncertain way,
And now she wonders if he will stay.
Forever beside her through the dark and the light,
To hold and comfort her into the night.

In the breath of autumn she feels his gaze,
She turns toward him, her heart ablaze.
What will she see in his eyes so true,
If not forever, what will she do?
Will the rain come early to their field of gold?
Or will they live a cherished dream yet untold?

In the breath of autumn he holds her near,
He knows the words she longs to hear.
And as he remembers their last embrace,
He touches once more her beautiful face.
"Forever my darling, I will love only you.
Please forgive me my love. I know not what to do."

In the breath of autumn he releases their dream,
To never return, or so it would seem.
She raises her hand to hush his sweet lips,
His words fall gently through her fingertips.
And in this moment, she now believes,
A life without him, she begins to grieve.
