Array ( [sid] => 22112 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Alcholic [time] => 2003-08-19 18:05:00 [hometext] => note: To Donna my friend please be strong enough within yourself to give up the alcohol and take care of you and your kids
[bodytext] => You drink from your bottle,
Like a baby suckling on its mothers breast,
You think the taste is satisfying,
And it is always within your reach.
You say it blocks out all the bad vibes,
All the bad memories you had as a tiny child,
You were only thirteen when you reached out,
Took in your first drop of alcohol.
Then on in life it helped to block out the beatings,
That you received from a man that was supposed to love and cherish you,
This was not love my dear, a man that truly loves you,
Doesn't treat you like s**t.
Take a look around you, there are others that have been through just as much if not more than you,
Then came the day that you lost your brother,
Once again the excuse that you turned to the bottle,
Another drink I will have, then tomorrow I'll give up,
You keep saying this same thing over and over to yourself,
Just one more drink tomorrow is another day, then I'll give up.
Tomorrow never comes or have you not heard,
When tomorrow is spose to come it never quite makes it for tomorrow has become today,
Is that your cheap way out of life,
You have no respect for yourself Donna in all that you say,
YOu tell me you will give up for your kids,
That simply can't happen, you need to give up for you,
Do you really know how disgusting it all looked to me the other day,
When I saw you sitting on the cement, talking with other drunks just like you,
That's right when I saw you there like you were you fell into the same category as a drunk just like they are.
When you are sober you're a nice lady to know,
You're an out going person friendly and fun to be around,
But when you are drunk, you are a person I don't really know,
You are then a person I don't really know,
You become too loud, you don't think about what comes out of your mouth,
That's what gets you into trouble, that's why you get beaten up,
Let go of the grog, when you're drunk your children don't want to be with you,
They love their mummy its true, but,
They can't stand it when you drink alcohol,
Donna they are innocent children they hang on your every word,
Don't let them be subdued to looking at a mummy that is drunk and doesn't know what she is doing herself,
They need to see there mum sober and full of life,
Not a dismal drunk, who is throwing her life away,
So pull yourself together throw that bottle away,
You need your children more than alcohol.

This was good I can feel the ladies pain in this. I think I am an alcoholic to (I'm 17) and I know how hard it is to set the bottle down and walk away from it. Pray for her, talk to her, and be her friend thats what she needs and TRY to be non-judgmental. Great poem... maybe show it to her.

the imagery was good some of it disturbing. Im In Ireland Drink is the bane of Irish people your friend should give up to see if she can not forever but to test herself if she craves it, shes addicted and shouldnt drink, its common sense. If she konws and she doesnt give up call the social welfare for the kids sake its only gonna get worse.

you caught the emotions well.I have been through all of this. I know its makes you crazy but look out for the welfare of those children. Noone will benefit a bit if she isn't ready to do the legwork and want to be sober.Watch over her and the kids.Your a great friend to go through this with her I know how hard it is.Enjoyable but sad write.
