Array ( [sid] => 22044 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => God Isn't On My Side [time] => 2003-08-18 09:25:00 [hometext] => Be known by the footprints that you leave.
Ancient Indian saying.
Protect, nurture and love all children and you will be known by the footprints that you leave [bodytext] => She lay there in the alley, in the early hours of morn
Body broken and twisted, clothes ragged and torn
She moaned aloud when I moved her, eyes opening wide
It goes to show she whispered, God isn't on my side.

Within the city's shadows, in the early hours of morn
She'd wandered the back alleys, alone and so forlorn
The driving winds of winter, had chilled her to the bone
But the broken heart carried within, made her feel like stone.

A month ago she'd left behind, the crazy place called home
Escaped the incestuous father, much safer on your own
The mother in denial, whose screams she still could hear
Get out you slut, don't come back, you're not welcome here.

This child grew up in the belief, that kids are meant to be
Nurtured and protected, loved unconditionally
And when her parents failed to offer, love, dignity and hope
She left her home took to the streets, hoping she would cope.

And so it was I found her there in the chilly gray of dawn
The needle lying at her side, told of her inner storm
The medics cried and tried in vain, to give life a new lease
But an angel was taking her home, to happiness and peace.
