[bodytext] => She's so young, so small. Why does she have to put up with it? The yelling, the hitting. I sit on her bed and sing her the lullaby. Its mostly made up, from my imagination, it makes her eyes grow heavy. Her parents are drunk and fighting outside the door. I hear every word. She ignores it, and listens to my voice. I sing to her until she dreams. I kiss her head softly and whisper: I love you, I will always be here When you need me. Just call my name, I will come. I promise. I will be here to protect you, When you are hurt or scared. I love you. I Promise. She whispers back to me: I love you. Now she is sleeping, the yelling has died down. The world is right again, safe and sound. I sing our lullaby one last time before I leave her side.
