After one, but not quite five,
When your head is on your pillow
and you're feeling less alive,
and the shadow from a night-light
plays a trick within your head,
It is then you sometimes wonder
Are you live or are you dead?

The trick played by the night-light
is to call upon your woes,
Whereby all and sundry 'goblins'
line up happily in rows.
They are happy 'cause they're well aware
They'll haunt you where you lie,
Every worry you can think of
Forms a real repugnant guy.

Did you pay your last installment?
Will they come and take the car?
Does refrigerator noises mean
repairs are not too far?
Does the rattle at the window
mean that someone's coming in?
Does your German Sherhard puppy
Kinda look like Rin Tin Tin?

There is dripping from the bathroom
Does it mean the plumber's due?
There are footsteps in the attic
Sounds like squirrels are running thru.
My checkbook didn't balance,
Did I enter all my stubs?
Do I have enough of Clorox
If I wash out all the tubs?

I think it's time for vodka,
Any drink will calm me down,
But the acrid taste of vodka
makes me want to shrug and frown
Frankly all the vodka ever does
Is help me with my 'funk',
It helps me in another way,
It makes the goblins drunk.

And so it is and so it be
I finally fall asleep,
When it's time to rise from bed,
I've fallen way too deep.
The rooster crows and wakes the dawn,
The sun climbs overhead,
And that's the way it is each day,
When all is done and said.

If people sleep the whole night thru,
They'll never comprehend,
The power of the goblin's dance
When sleep's around the bend. [comments] => 7 [counter] => 266 [topic] => 16 [informant] => norm [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 13 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FriendshipPoetry )

very well written
those goblins need to be smitten
they bother me too
Oh what to do

I don't like vodka but maybe some rum
but after the rum the goblins in harmony hum
so here I am in the dark worried so
I wish those darn goblins had somewhere else to go

The death of night fools the mind
When it's 1 AM you're color blind.
We do not have Goblins here
But we do have other creatures to fear...

I woke up briskly one nighty night
After having had a terrible nightmare.
The Gorilla I saw in my room shook me up with fright
I hid under my blanket and decided not to glare.

The nightmare I prefered.

The troublin' goblins called bills, duties, habits
are the side products of our society
which have caught us off guard,
taken over our lives,
driving us off the bend,
and
I understand.
Do you need a hand
to kick them buggers
off your land?. (smile)
