Array ( [sid] => 20746 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => QUESTION A POET? [time] => 2003-07-20 22:45:00 [hometext] => At some time or another, someone is always asking me these questions. So I decided to answer them in a poem! It's a little different, hope you enjoy! [bodytext] => WHY DO YOU WRITE POETRY?
I really have no choice you see.
I must write poetry...
Or Crazy, I'd be!
I can't look at anything
without a picture or a poem
coming into view.
I'm wiritng a poem right now,
and it's all because of you!

Poetry is like Wind Chimes within a poet's soul..
Whirl Winds Whirling......
The words begin,
Emotions take over, and I'm out of control!

In my "Mind's Eye"
I see pictures that I can paint with words.
Colorfast colors, intensive glow!
Pitches of high, low, and even staccato!

Soon, my feelings engage,
Standing at attention,
Listening for their "Drum Roll!"
A recall in tranquility,
Spontaneous over-flow!

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO WRITE?
I don't, it just comes to me.
Experiences, or emotions relived.
A poet gets to choose the time and place....
Here on earth, or out in space!

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN TO END?
I never do.
Writing a poem is like making a stew.
Color, words, pictures, feelings,
all seasoned with thyme....
Carefully stirred, you hope it will rhyme!

AND IF IT DOESN'T?
Well, you put it on the 'backburner,"
Let simmer a day or two...
When the flavor is enhanced,
It tastes better, and will rhyme for you!

DON'T YOU EVER GET TIRED OF WRITING POEMS?
Oh, My No! 'Tis like a romance,
The more you rhyme, the more you write....,
It's addictive, like an obsession to get it right!

IS THAT ALL RIGHT?
There's no right or wrong in poetry.
What's wrong for me may be right for you!

HOW 'BOUT THE GRAMMAR?
With poetry, you have the freest hand.
No rules on grammar, English, or even rhyme...
If you want to....
You can even make up your own words,
that will be fine!

I PERSONALLY THINK POETS ARE A LITTLE "OFF," DON'T YOU?
That's a good observation, indeed!
All we poets are different.
Some are blossoms, others are weed,
One person's poison, may be your seed!

I THINK THE WORLD COULD DO WITHOUT POETS, DON'T YOU?
That may be true.....
But for a moment imagine if you will?
A world without romance, nor romantic words?
No more invisible pictures
in a person's imaginary eye?
No more lovers with their beckoning call.....
No more tears for countries that fall......
No more relief for many a death.....
No more stories of a soldier's last breathe!

How could we handle rejections, and "No's"
without the words of a poet's prose?
What about the starving children
the whole world over?
It's poets that move many a heart, to contribute,
Encourage others to do their part!

What about the beauty of rhyme?
Inspirational, up-building, filled with hope!
Has launched hundreds of ships,
Plus the memories that Poet's write down,
have kept many afloat and some even sound!

Lest we forget, how many a poem opens the
Presidential inauguration?
How about your high school graduation?
Even Jesus used illustrations.,
For he knew.....give them a picture in their minds...
Then they will understand and do!

Yes, the world would be so bland,
Without the poet's active mind and hand!

THEN SHOULD WE PRAISE POETS?
Oh, My No, a "Thank you," will do!
We poets have a gift, and we don't want praise!
All we ask is, that you let us keep writing poems,
Now, and for the all the rest of our days!
Let us continue submitting poems to Mick...
That ought to do the trick!

Three cheers for Mick!
