I played a tune that wound up wrong,
I tried my best, you'd have never guessed
For I meant to play life as a song.

A few spans more, I met life with a roar
It singled me out, I was thrilled to the core
I'm sure I was bright, it was I in the light
I surely knew all of the score.

I ran with the guys, there was flirting and lies
As we chased all the girls with developing size,
And upward I grew, I instinctively knew
There was something too good in this guise.

One Sunday, it stopped, it came to a halt,
Pearl Harbor was bombed, that was the fault,
We lost our youth, we grew up too fast
Some of us came home in a vault.

Now and again, I think of that day
I think of our poems with the suicide play,
Would folks like that run and volunteer
And give up their life in that way? [comments] => 7 [counter] => 160 [topic] => 7 [informant] => norm [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => HumorPoetry )

If I believed in my nation
To war I'd gladly go.
And if I did what I believe in
My life would be quite a show.

To live is to experience
The things you want to know
And I don't see why you'd regret it
If you did them as you grow.
