Array ( [sid] => 20320 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => a letter to my father [time] => 2003-07-12 21:05:00 [hometext] => this was written before my last poem . and i have not posted it because at the time i felt that it was too personal. but now i guess i feel differently. [bodytext] => i know that it would be wrong to blame you
we're practically strangers
it seemed impossible to forgive you those years ago
i was young, stupid. but now i've grown into what i was meant to be
i know i'll never be able to talk to you
i'll never even be able to forget
its because of you that i learned to abhor the silence
the only thing that ever stood between you and me
as i lay cowering in your presence
it took my mother to tell me that you see yourself as a failure
this is the only thing we may agree on
i could care less if you failed at your job or anything else
because you could have succeeded as a father
but it was your choice to fail at that and it still is your choice to try and change
and it saddens me that you'll always be a father and ill never be able to call you dad. It is very hard when you don't have the love of both your parents especially when they are still in the house...this brought back some sad memories for me but was a very good write

its sad that the people we're often expected to be close to are the ones that we are furthest from. i don't think i'll ever be able to call my father 'dad'. excellent poem, brutally honest and moving. Kate x
