Array ( [sid] => 20221 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Know WHY you do what you do [time] => 2003-07-10 09:05:00 [hometext] => This poem was inspired when I saw the farmers in North West Victoria Australia plouging their field in the middle of a drought. I aasked why do they bother and this came up. It's the first poem I've ever written [bodytext] => Know Why You Do What You Do

The farmer he ploughs and tills the soil
His plan takes shape through sweat and toil
When the ground is ready, the seeds are planted
He looks and hopes abundance to be granted

In weeks he looks but nothing appears
His work in vain, he does not fear
He knows with time and love and care
A good strong crop will grow right there

He waters and feeds and tends the field
Not long now he’ll gather the yield
With planning and effort the seed will shoot
But not before, unseen, it takes root

A morning it dawns and sheds its light
The farmer looks out with sheer delight
A tinge of green from side to side
Cultivation of his efforts it cannot hide

It’s weeks then months they pass with care
The farmer knows there’s enough to share
Less seeds have matured than initially were sown
Maybe one in ten now stands alone

Arriving at last is the time to harvest
The farmer continues to keep working his hardest
He picks and he cuts and he stores nature’s goods
He thinks of the ploughing and knows why he should

He sells and he gives the fruits of his labour
He sits and now rests accomplishments to savour
His rest time is but over no time for refrain
There’s a field out there to be ploughed again

Think now like a farmer and trust in your plan
Work hard, take care and love fellow man
In life just know WHY you do what you do
With this and commitment – SUCCESS comes to YOU!

WOW, this is such an amazing write and considering it is your first write, wow congratulations. I really did like it and it was very inspirational. I have lived in farms for most of my life and I have also owned horses for most of my life and with that you do still have to get out there no matter what and do what you have to do. A great write I enjoyed this emmensely.

Anthony thanks for sharing this poem. There needs to be more like this one. I grew up in a farming community and from a long line of farming family. They really have to use every spare moment to prepare and raise their food. They also have an unyielding personality they have to!! This is great.

The first poem you've written flows like a stream
It brings benovelence to those who care to read
which is the best thing the spoken word ever does
I shall graduate you to the poets stance, thus.
