And the day leaves with a sigh
I listen to the calling breeze
That carries a lonesome cry
Far off in the distance
Way beyond the ferny ravine
I sit here now with heavy heart
For this creature I've never seen
The story goes, well, so I'm told
That while intending only fun
Some boys went to the mountain
With a fully loaded gun
They trekked the dusty trail
Following the animals tracks
These boys were on a mission
They were armed and set to attack
For their lives they scampered
In and out of every bush
These defenceless lil critters
How their bodies must have shook
The boys moved ever faster,
Running at full speed
One guy in front was really pumped
He felt this urgent need
To show his buddies with him
That he was a bigger man for this
And so he raised the rifle
It fired but he missed
Yes he missed the target
But his actions were of hate
Because yes he missed the male
But shot dead the animals mate
They stood and cheered his evilness
To them it was a game
But for the animal left grieving
Life would never be the same
There are certain critters
Who stay together all their lives
They breed and co-inhabit
Just like men do with their wives
After their laughter had subsided
And they grew bored with this scene
They turned around,marched back down
As though there they'd never been
But what they left behind them
Was a sad heart wrenching sight
Two animals close together
Lying quietly side by side
Her,no longer breathing
Him,wishing he had died
For so long he has remained
Still grieving everyday
His hearts loss can be heard
On a breeze that blows my way
As the evening settles into a hush
And the day leaves with a sigh
I listen to the calling breeze
