The saddest place
The land of the 'free'

A distorted country
of sleazy faces
Plastic morals
and human disgraces

A shallow culture
built on vice
A nasty streak
Corpses on ice

Uglier than Iraq could ever be
The United States of misery

Each crawling street
of plastic smiles
Hide the guns
And paedophiles

They believe they have something
of which to be proud
Instead they are loathesome
ugly and loud

Uglier than Iraq could ever be
A mess from sea to polluted sea

Gangsters and crazies
in the knifeblade night
Corruption and losers
Afraid of the light

Arrogant atitudes of
'We Are The World'
Shiny excrement
A flag unfurled

Uglier than Iraq could ever be
A nation of ugly hypocrisy [comments] => 4 [counter] => 506 [topic] => 41 [informant] => Steeleyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => political )

As a poem..you do fine ... your subject
forces me to be political..and I don't
wish to be...

Your poem is very well written. As far as your views of America, I disagree. There are parts of America that are bad, of course every country has its slums. But comparing urban problems to life under a tryanical dictator is foolish. A great deal of America is made up of honest hard working people. People who love their families and their contry. This contry has its problems but there is no place I would rather live, or defend.

well steeleys- what can I say about what you've written. As an American there are certainly issues I disagree with both now and in the 60's (when I marched), they'll always be issues people disagree with, however, to come down like a ton a bricks on this great nation makes me so angry. if you can't say anything good- why stay? i must stay focused and say your poetry is well written but I wish you'd place your creativity in an area where it would be more appreciated by a larger group of people. I notice you go by steeleyes- one definition of steel is: anything of extreme hardness, and you've been very hard on our country.
