With simple conversation, and more than my usual tact.

I’d seen her around before, and hoped I would again,
I’ve mentioned her once or twice, while talking to a friend.

Sure enough, yesterday in my office she came,
Wearing a beautiful smile, and this time I saw her name.

She sat behind a desk that happened to face mine,
Pulled out a pen and pad, then turned to check the time.

Her pen moved in a fury, I wondered who or what it was for,
Did we have that in common, letting our emotions on paper pour?

Perhaps she’s been there too, afraid to trust again,
Being burnt can break a heart, and takes time to really mend.

But yesterday is gone, maybe today I’ll see
Just what it is about the girl who sat across from me.
