Array ( [sid] => 18755 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => MY GLOBAL DAUGHTER [time] => 2003-06-08 00:35:00 [hometext] => Well, I'm very proud of my children (as all of us are). When my daughter said to me she'd like to intern in Ghana this summer- I was a wreck. The no sleep food syndrome hit because of fear........a fear that was unfounded........a fear given me by people who never traveled there. So, I felt I had to write on behalf of the sweet Ghanian people whose pictures I'm looking forward to seeing, and language I'm looking forward to learing. My Jill is one cool girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [bodytext] => my daughter Jill's in Ghana
before she left I cried with fear
with fear that was instilled
from those who never travelled there
i told her to be careful
go darker on the hair
be careful of the food she eats
while she is staying there
Nail color was removed
makeup was left home
all this to convey a message "leave me alone"
she's interning for the summer
and happy she is now
experiencing a life I never had
and working very hard
ghanians are nice people
friendly and polite
they treat my daughter with respect
and appreciate her choice
to offer human kindness working
toward their better life
I'm proud of Jill's achievements
I live through her success
at 25 she's a reflection of
hard work mirrored by success
working for the people does not pay well at all
but this is the path she's taking
as a future Lawyer she'll excell
she has the strength and the might
to create and spread ideals
so people can live and work in an
informed local and global world
