When my heart, was in that special place,
before, I ran against myself,
when I learned, it’s a fools race,
I stuck that me, on a dusty shelf.

But all that, it was years ago,
and that version I competed with, the first of many,
though hidden well, it still shows,
I couldn’t find copper, with a penny.

Now who am I?, one voice asks of me,
and murmurs, clamor through the dust,
to be heard, to live again, to breathe;
oh, the pain, of all these me’s, w’ nary one, to trust.

I love the title! The concept that we are layers of multiple persons is accurate in my experience.
None of mine are whole, so can/'/t be trusted to make reliable decisions.
You poem took me down a few layers to poke about, and you are so accurate it stings!
We are always seeking to be what we have never been, so we are fragmented. Now if we could only stack the chips we might have a whole person to work with! I like this..it speaks to me.

What a wonderful write that I see myself as today.
Situations in my life put me on a dusty old shelf.
But I await the day that I can remove myself and live a life I always wanted to live without worrying about what others required of me.

How prophetic indeed. Quaint and charming piece we all have experienced sometime or another. Bravo!

the marks, usually in red, to show the editing.
Yes, the free willing thought, asking or lets just
say begging the question in order to get down
to the business of making any good progress,
and the splendid brilliants of asking questions,
full stop
as I take a breath and encounter what/'/s in
my mind, looking back and facing, at first
what I might see as an absurdity, or is it?
See I ask many what might seem to be
a list of dopey questions, standouts in
the queue of understanding the best approach
to be had, another full stop
I must be bold you see. Later on, I have
learned to know there are no dopey
questions. This much was never taught
to me by any professor in college,
it was taught to me by the people who
heard my approach which enabled them
to freely ask more questions themselves.
Which by the way made me think,
haven/'/t I have been in this exact space
once before, almost like Deja vu---
well maybe

Peace!

This is the very definition of relatable. If not, then one has never truly lived.
Thought provoking, to say the least!
Thanks for sharing...
