30 years is just a blink; but we threw in the kitchen sink
In looking back you may recall, what came and went for one and all.

Phones had cords and stayed in doors, the princess phone was in!
Outdoors we phoned inside a booth, and no one listened in.
They had no cameras, couldn’t text, and weren’t small and thin.
Shaped like Garfield, Mickey Mouse or Harley Davidson.

No internet for Donkey Kong, we met at game arcades.
Super Mario was king, plus Pac-man, Pong were played!
Camcorders and fax machines were soon to come to be.
And Christmas put a cabbage patch doll underneath each tree.

We watched Dukes of Hazard, and millions of us stopped;
Tuning in to Dallas to see how JR was shot.

We tried to solve the Rubic’s Cube; Atari was brand new.
MASH aired its final episode -- goodby to Hot Lips too!

Sixty eight grand bought a house; Seven grand a car.
We lived on nineteen grand a year, and talk TV was star.

Star Trek premiered its first show, and we were soon to see;
A brand new hostess on the air, her name? Oprah Winfrey.

ABBA, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, The Police, and Queen;
Along with Eric Clapton all made our music scene.

Apple hit the stock exchange under three bucks a share;
Two thousand seven hundred each is where shares went from there.

Yuppies replaced Hippies; the Berlin Wall came down;
And Health and Fitness clubs were blooming everywhere in town!

Sally Ride went into space; Diana wed the Prince;
Thriller aired on MTV, and its been famous since.

Ted Turner launches CNN to broadcast 24;
Exon Valdez dumped all her oil on Alaska’s shore.

If youre in your fifties you recall some of this rhyme;
Although Im glad for what we have, I blew this one BIG time:

If I had bought 100 shares of Apple in the day;
That same amount would only buy me seven shares today! [comments] => 3 [counter] => 87 [topic] => 51 [informant] => softerware [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Event )

wait what, star trek actually aired in 1966
okay sure, Apple went public in December 1980
but why but why
did I put all my money into IBM
Queen the rock band really made the scene in the US
in 1975/76 if I recall
A Bohemian myself at the time, Bismillah, oh how I wished.
In the early 1980/'/s I used to say I wrote software programs
whenever I applied for an apartment in the Silicon Valley
And I remember, walking into the Apple headquarters
in Cupertino and filling out an application for work.
And I have a dog today who is named Cupa, I picked
up at a shelter. She is a good dog, but she likes to
jump on you, although she means well, some people
find it aggressive
After I worked in research I went west and in
1984 I made 19 K and thought I was doing pretty pretty
pretty good financially.

oh gosh darn it, people think the eighties were special,
but we both know, that was after the seventies and
all that hyperinflation, stagnation they called it.

Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon -1973.
I was playing Wish You were Here in 1976,
my mom bought me a twelve stringer for xmas that year.
they stuck me in with some older guys, because
the rhythm guitar player left for the Navy - he bequeathed his electric guitar to me

I wanted to be a pedestrian someday.

Peace!
