Since I retired unrequired to work to earn the bacon!

Since you will be eventually, retired perhaps you might;
Be curious whats ahead one day, and what retirement’s like.

When we no longer have to rise and go to work each day;
Yet despite our absence, our check comes anyway?

When noisy birds awaken us outside our window singing;
And not the piercing chirp of an alarm clock loudly ringing?

The smell of coffee brewing to awake our sleepy heads;
Enough to poke a toe or two outside that comfy bed?

To listen to the distant hum of hundreds of commuters;
On their way another day to phones, desks and computers.

While others check their memos for capitals and comas,
We’ll have a cup of coffee as we head in our pajamas;

Out on the porch, barefoot of course, to bask in morning rays;
While TV news, that we can’t use, reports on road delays!

Today we’ll see the mailman, and watch the gardeners going;
We’ll smell sweet grass with every pass of all the lawns their mowing.

I promise you a week end, each day of the week;
Empty stores, and furthermore, the parking spot you seek!

A movie in the afternoon; a bookstore to yourself;
Younger folks to open doors and get things off the shelf!

What you desired when you were hired, will come one day to pass;
When youre the boss, and you can toss your timecard in the trash!

If I knew then what I knew now, Id be the first to say;
Enjoy what you look forward to, while you’re at work today! Great poem. And it sort of reminds me of being a young child. Free and easy living if you had good parents. Work has been my life but honestly it is time to move on and I found this poem encouraging and I enjoyed the thought it gives.

Retirement sounds just fine to me, but then perhaps I shouldn/'/t be wishing my life away.
To be fair, you/'/ve put in your time and you/'/ve earned the reward.
Long may you live to enjoy it !!!

Steve
