the late night calls
we had

never minded
the random acts of fun
we had

never minded
the patience you had

never minded
all the trips that
we had and made together

never minded
the sweet yet corny moments
you had

never minded
all those things

yet
when you decided to leave
our friendship out in the cold
without a second thought

Spot on - all the good things don/'/t stand up to an insensitive dumping.

Why is it, as your poem points out, we remember all the GOOD things when a relationship ends?
I say we make a list of the stuff we hated and post it, so every day we can say...WHEW, CLOSE CALL!
Forgive me...I tend to celebrate narrow escapes.

So you were part of the family
then you turned away
and we let you go
because we always knew
you
no we just loved you,
and you knew
and when you turned away
we never gave up

we never will
I never did
it was never about me
I knew it never would be
how funny lines could never
be rehearsed
there is no reverse logic
I think of all the dismal things
that could happen
that do happen every day
and people talk and lie flatly
in terms of we as if there is
some antagonistic way of thinking
that is opposite
than everything grinds itself down
to a smudge
like it will go poof
once you wipe it clean
the dog still likes to go
into the bathroom and
pull the sheets of toilet paper
off the hook, she/'/s looking
for someone to play with
she/'/s only a puppy still

But I say that only in confidence
For me it becomes a way
of rationalization
So there I make my peace
knowing all the while it could
never be perfect
Peace!
