When you go in search of that thing you know you have
You know you put it away safe
But you can not remember where
So you turn things upside down and inside out

But you can not find it at all
But you do find things you thought where lost
Time ticks by, you delve deeper and deeper
Falling into the abyss of past memories
Finding things that still work
And junk that has long been dodging the skip

Until you find your quest in a joyous and fulfilling end
Hidden deep down dusty paths, in a box that had not caught your eye
I knew it was somewhere
It was in one of my distant memories, long covered in new
But finally I have found you, my precious

Interestingly enough, this has a very symbolic similarity in sense to the story of the frog and golden orb, specifically, the frog prince.
As I/'/ve come to see the story, a maiden/princess loses a shiny golden orb into a river and it sinks to the bottom. As she laments the fact, the frog presents itself and offers to reclaim it from the murky depths for a kiss.

The mention of abyss in your poem for this was possibly coincidental, but still worth noting. Nice job :)

My favorite line is IT WAS IN ONE OF MY DISTANT MEMORIES, LONG COVERED IN NEW.
We collect in layers and layers, and to rediscover all we have done, we only need to begin peeling away the top.
An interesting expression DODGING THE SKIP.
A regional colloquialism?
You expressed my comments exactly on this write in your last line.
