Array ( [sid] => 184422 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Michael is his name [time] => 2017-08-20 08:08:41 [hometext] => My adult Son is Autistic, this poem is to all the people who stared, tutted and whispered, at us when he was a small boy. You dont have to understand something to show a little empathy. [bodytext] => Who’s that boy over there?
Kicking up a stink
He really is so naughty
That’s what people think

In truth he’s in his own world
Where only his rules apply
Living in frustration
Reality drifting by

Such a little sweetheart
But people never see
Too busy with condemning him
And harshly judging me!

Not everyone is perfect
Not all minds are free
So look beyond his outbursts
And leave my baby be

I don’t care what people think
I’d do it all again
I love him just the way he is
Michael is his name

My youngest daughter was born brain damaged. She/'/s 49 with a mental age of 6.
Don/'/t know why people think they need to protect their children--it isn/'/t contagious. Maybe they thought it would frighten them.
for whatever reason, so it was.
I love your poem and the courage it took to write it without bitterness. You are exceptionally gracious; a skill perhaps we acquire from enduring irrational people and unfair judgements.
Thank you for sharing this. Our children are fiercely loved by the people most important to them.

my fried who is by the way a genius, has a son, who is autistic, he/'/s the most lovely child, except, he will go with anyone, anywhere, he/'/s hard to keep track of,
he loves everybody.
Autism takes on so many shapes - well I could not say myself - nobody is normal though
I hope Michael / which by the way is a great name /
will simply become a great poet someday
And tell us all so much more than we know.

kiss me, I am Irish, dear Michael, I hope you will
hear this from a gal

the secret to life is to have love for somebody else
to be loved yourself Mike.

akadawny, I love the way you write! It is really quite good!
Peace!
