so its just you and me
and our commentary
watching our lives play out
on the big screen
The endings a twist
and the actors; no scripts
they are just improvising
and romanticizing

Oh what it must be like to be young
and in love again
in the city that never sleeps
What song would fit with the streetlights all lit,
while we dance through the wet city streets?

So cliche, she will say
but in the best way
this scene where they share
their first kiss
The record it swoons
music fills up the room
and describes what we all
feel we miss

Then the climax
where he must get her back
The actor cannot
believe what hes done
but at least on the screen
people say what they mean
and all is forgiven
when he says "youre the one"

Oh what it must be like to be young
and in love again
in the city that never sleeps
What song would fit with the streetlights all lit,
while we dance through the wet city streets?

If only she knew I was telling the truth
like the guy in the movie she loves
when I told her "I cant picture life without you
I love you, I do" It just wasnt enough

So Im asking the director to finish this scene
maybe change the writing, just this once
So I can wake to her kissing my face
Take me back to that place
Take me back to when I was in love
