For having a place that I can call home;
For this warm fuzzy coat I’m taking for granted;
For Dixie cup beers, and sweet port decanted;

For shadows of leaves that danced at my feet;
For the key in my pocket that offers retreat.

To family that come if I want them or not;
The holiday cards from the ones I’ve forgot;

The casual friend whose hug is sincere;
The tunes that close doors on another new year.

The mall full of lights; the rows of mowed lawns,
The mailman who carries his burden with song;

The music of living that plays all around me;
The noise and the traffic that endlessly hounds me!

Stand on the balcony looking below;
At the hurrying smear of colors that glow;
Until darkness shrouds the doorways with night;
And silhouettes dance in framed windowlight;

A prayer, a whisper, a wish to you all;
May you find what you seek; may love answer your call.
May you be remembered, and long may you stand
Watching the world with a hand in your hand. [comments] => 4 [counter] => 218 [topic] => 60 [informant] => softerware [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => insomniac )

What a great poem for this time of year.
It was as so well written no need to showcase a line or stanza because they were all so memorable. Brilliantly done. From a casual friend comes a hug.........

Merry Christmas
James

I really like this one, Jaye. What a beautiful and meaningful write for any day of the year. That combined with your flawless rhythm and rhyme, make this my new favourite from you. It feels like it hasn/'/t been that long since I said that about one of your poems...I imagine it won/'/t be long before I/'/m saying it again! ;)

Awesome job.

me too
graces they are
some would never call
so simple
but I sure do
sometimes not
as much as I should

these are not merely simple
graces / they are special ones

that many never have
we all want these
we all need these
but even if there is
a leak in the roof

of the mobile home
in the bad part of town
down by the river

if you got someone
who loves you
happiness is grace

I guess happiness is
the removal of bad things

like cold is the removal of heat from matter
happiness is created by the reduction of
worry, or fear, or pain, or extreme loneliness.

grace is the understanding of this happiness.
Greatly enjoyed this well written poem!!!!!

Peace!

Whether it was your intention or not, you have made me feel all Christmasey with this.
So many wonderful images wrapped up with a big bow of contented sighs after reading this piece.
I/'/m curious to know what a Dixie cup beer is now, clearly not something I/'/m likely to find here in England, Maybe google will come to my aid.
Thanks for making me smile

Steve
