For candy, toys and comic books.

As a teen for cigarettes;
Lipstick, hairspray; Chia pets;

Later movie magazines;
Diet drinks to keep me lean.

Then I went to shop for two;
Shaving creams and ramen stews!

Soon enough I brought from home;
A tiny sleep thief of our own!

As one end leaked and one end cried;
The pharmacist became my guide;

Diapers, toys, and teething rings,
Baby bottles, books that sing;

At last with grandchildren in tow,
I share the place Ive come to know;

And I revered as worldy-wise,
Owe it all to one disguised;

As just a store on any street;
Where children come to pick a treat;

While I share store-ies once again;
With those who knew me way back when.

From jelly beans to walking canes;
The corner drugstore still remains;

In many towns a legacy;
In many hearts a memory.

This was glorious.
You really need to get a life Jaye.....lol
Writing with fondness of the drugstore. Just kidding it was brilliant. You have a way of making something out of nothing and I enjoy the ride.

Tylenol at your feet...........

James

Such a playful reflection you have written here. Nothing like a walk back down memory lane to remember the good times. It/'/s the little things in life. This brought a big smile. Great job

a lost memory that was never lost
only overshadowed
in my town it was Rexal Drugs and it was on a corner
In the early 1960/'/s it was a fun place for a kid to go. They even had a counter where you could buy a fizzy drink and where it was rumored just like in the movie "it/'/s a wonderful life" the pharmacist was a drunk.
The town was small but we children thought it was huge.
When you go back to the town you find that the population has actually shrunk, towns moved out farther west and east leaving the town where I grew up almost the same. Going back the houses are all small and the main street still has not much changed.
I thought about going back there to live one day, possibly even buying the house where I was raised.
Yet, there/'/s a sadness somehow in such a plan.

This brings back all kinds of thought, and it/'/s sweet.

Thanks!
Peace!

You have a gift for these store-ies. ;)

The patience you show to your rhyme schemes always makes me want to try harder at my own writes! Keep inspiring us all with your whimsical writes.

Brilliant, lifting any spirit on a dark Winter day.
Loved the description of
" A tiny sleep thief".
That/'/s a line I would have loved to have written myself.
Great write

Steve
