How well you describe the moment that can define us! When we are unprepared as you were, we are our most authentic.
Five people will react five different ways to the same moment. It is the tell that defines them.
That, as you point out, is to our advantage, for where one will fail, another will take up the cause!
Your write celebrates diversity with all its choices and options. We are better for our differences, I have to agree.
