[hometext] => Who was your Everyday Warrior?
[bodytext] => Thought I would leave an indelible mark;
On this life before it was gone.
Write a great novel, or cure a disease;
But it turns out I may have been wrong.
Most get few cheers for spending our years;
Nurturing kids and careers;
Our children may doubt the extent of our clout;
Yet without us they wouldn’t be here!
On our wall can be seen the awards a Marine;
Garnered for life that he saved!
No ribbons for those whos children they chose;
No medals for raising the babes.
The best I can do, is offer to you;
A toast to these heros unsung;
To the mothers, and teachers, and grandmas and preachers;
Who coached all great deeds ever done.
To you who inspired, and set dreams on fire;
Who stayed and encouraged, and prayed.
To those that we treasure, who changed us forever;
Who found us when we went astray!
Though silent about you, we can’t do without you;
No banners, no songs, no parades;
Could ever repay what is done everyday;
By the heros who stand in the shade.

I had a director I would go to
I would ask difficult questions that
to me seemed insolvable
And the director would empower
me to solve the question all by myself
And feeling quite disturbed by this
I would let the question remain
insolvable
And I would feel the pain and almost
become quite cynical
One might get something
out of that, it takes a great deal of patience
and forbearance sometimes
just to get through one single day
But you learn to know something
especially through looking back
at the past at those who stood before
you realizing that you are not at all
alone
Patience and having the courage
to move forward through difficult
situations
Is not at all unique you might even learn
that people before faced insolvable dilemmas
almost daily, and many still do
My mom and dad both were almost forty before I was born in the sixties
my own people I am connected to go back well before the turn of the twentieth century
One could go back much further or even take
a good look at today and see heroes
Yes yes, I have things I want to say, there are millions
of others that wish to as well
There are so many things we would like to say
and so many things we would like to change
we need to know what is heroic substantial
what is heroic and subjectively moral
Something like a Louis Brandeis
Or perhaps a John Steinbeck
Or an older sister or brother or
Uncle who died in WWII age seventeen
maybe a farm worker, a slave or someone
fighting for prison reform
Or a great teacher
Someone who listens
Someone you can trust
My aunt was a nun who worked most her
life teaching math in South America
She never owned anything her whole life
She would visit our family when I was young
making me a very shy boy laugh
You know about heroes SW in this poem
And it is good to think about the many
that there are
Like the milkman who would leave milk
even though my mom had no money to pay
Peace!
